I realized this morning that I forgot to post Emily's poem on Monday.
I'm sorry, you guys. *facepalm*
But, as the old saying goes, better late than never, right? XP
Seasons of Time is a beautiful poem that shows the different "seasons" of life through simple yet elegant imagery, and the way she arranged it gives it the perfect hit at the end. Ack, I can't describe it well enough. XD You'll just have to read it for yourself...
Seasons of Time by Emily Waldorf
It was all sunshine a day ago,
when I was a girl on my mother’s knee.
Springtime is childhood’s brightening sky,
when youth and life are all we see.
It was all roses an hour ago
when my heart was yours and our hopes were high;
when summer fragrance filled the night
and it was just you and I.
It was all color a minute ago,
as we fought a lifetime’s fight
in one short autumn that didn’t fade,
never sensing the frosty bite.
It’s winter now, it’s time I go:
Snow-covered tussock, a withered blade.
The sunshine, the roses, the leaves—all die.
So too will I in the earth be laid.
I love endings like that - gradual, bittersweet, but somehow anticipated. And the wording reminds me of The Warden and the Wolf King - anyone else get that? Or was it just me? :P Do you like poetry? Do you write it? Have you ever read any of Emily's other stuff?
Until next time,
Take courage, pursue God, and smile while you still have teeth!! ;)
Oh wow, so bittersweet and beautiful! The wording reminds me of The Warden and the Wolf King too!
This is one of my favorite poems I have ever read. Poignant, personal, and applicable to everyone. I absolutely love it.
This is so beautiful!! Thank you, Emily and Joelle <3
Why, I actually have read her other work! XD
Thanks Joelle. I'm so pleased to have my poem appear on your blog.
