The Prompt
She had made a poor job of hiding the damage their words had left.

The Story
She had made a poor job of hiding the damage their words had left. Even the smile she was usually able to keep plastered on her face, even during their worst jabs, had faltered and finally failed the moment they turned their backs.
Hailey chewed her lip. She knew the right thing to do: go and talk to Shaya. Maybe offer her lunch in place of the one the bullies had ruined. But... it was so hard. Everyone would watch her walk across the room and sit down with the girl no one liked. Her social status would be destroyed within minutes.
But even worse, her friends wouldn't even understand why she had to do what she did, much less agree with it.
With a sigh, Hailey looked back to her sandwich and swallowed. Her appetite was gone.
Shaya got to her feet and left the domed cafeteria, no doubt headed to the restrooms to hide the tears Hailey had seen brimming in her eyes.
"...I have flight next," Char was saying. He grinned and stirred his soup, already lost in his dreams of the air. "I'm so close to getting licensed. So. Close."
Chelsie smiled at him and flicked the tip of his nose. "Greatest pilot in the fleet."
He frowned and pulled away. "Just you wait, sis. Just you wait."
"What do you have next, Lee?" Chelsie asked.
Hailey started. "Uh... I don't remember."
Char squinted at her. "Hey, are you okay? You look like you're going to be sick."
Swallowing, Hailey nodded. "Yeah, um... I'm going to head to the restroom. See you after academy lets out."
"Sure. See you," Char said.
The twins' brows furrowed with slight concern as Hailey pushed away from the table and stumbled into the restrooms. She hadn't lied - she was feeling sick. But it had nothing to do with an illness.
She was going to talk to Shaya if it killed her.
What are your thoughts on status quo and cliques? What genre is this? What would you do in this situation? What is the best sales pitch you've ever seen?
Until next time,
Take courage, seek God, and smile while you still have teeth! :)
Awwww, this was touching!! <333
*cheers at that ending* (Though goodness, I don't want her to get killed.) This is SO interesting. I think it's dystopian or sci-fi? 👀 XD
