Know the Novel (Part 2)

Oh man you guys, It’s Tuesday and I didn’t even realize I’d missed a post until now. XD *fp* Ah, well. Everyone loves posts on Tuesdays, right? XD

(P.S. Know the Novel is a linkup hosted by the fabulous Christine Smith. Check it out here! And if you missed part one of this year’s go-round, you can read that here. :))

ALSO

HAPPY EARLY THANKSGIVING!!!!!! *throws mashed potatoes everywhere* What are six things you’re thankful for and one of your favorite Thanksgiving memories? I’d love to hear about it. ^_^

Part 2 – Within the WIP

How’s the writing going overall?

Ha. So, since Aqua Vitae is still in the plotting stages, we haven’t technically written anything for the story. We do have some smatterings of backstories, though. XD Plotting is going fantastic – our poor characters. XD We have a general idea of what’s going to happen, we know who the main characters are, and we know what message we want to share through this story. (*suddenly realizes she doesn’t remember what that message is, though she knows they worked on it*)

Ahem.

Our worldbuilding is also going fairly well. So! Having even a slight plan in all of those aspects makes for a lot more planning than we usually do. XD

What’s been the most fun aspect about writing this novel so far?

Writing it with my friends, hands down. Rebekah, Catherine, BR, and Kaylie, you ROCK. Keep being awesome!! *milkshakes all around*

What do you think of your characters at this point? Who’s your favorite to write about?

What do I think of them? My first thought is, “They’re doomed,” followed by an evil cackle.

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. XD

I gotta say that for me, Jax (my character) is the funnest. He’s so… snarky. And explosive in more ways than one. Plus, he has taken a shine to tormenting Catherine’s character more than everybody else, which is always fun.

Has your novel surprised you in any way?

*snort-laughs* What novel doesn’t?!

Mostly the surprises for this one come in the form of finding out its waaaay more complicated than we originally thought. XD

Have you come across any problem areas?

Actually starting to write… *coughs* I mean, we’ve hit a few plot holes here and there that took some brainstorming to resolve. And our poor AV folder really needs some organizational help.

And we need to actually write out our plot instead of keeping it this vague. (Guys we have a lot of work to do XD)

What’s been your biggest victory with writing this novel at this point?

Finding faceclaims. Seriously. I hate finding faceclaims ‘CAUSE THEY NEVER LOOK RIGHT!! Either that or the ones that do are inappropriate. *fp* But somehow we managed to get faceclaims for almost all of the characters (some side characters like parents still need help, but y’know). And they actually look close to what the charries look like.

WHAT MAGIC IS THIS

If you were transported into your novel and became any one of the characters, which one do you think you’d be? Would you take any different actions than they have?

Ooh, fun question! I think I’d probably be either Ivy (love of chocolate, folks), or Eve (dreamy and kinda oblivious sometimes). Also a hint of Jax (go crazy for attention) and a tad of Daniel (mooooods) and even the tinsiest bit of Owen (we don’t freak out in emergencies until the emergency is resolved).

Heh.

And actually, I probably wouldn’t with Ivy or Eve. For the boys… yeah, definitely, though I bet it’s because I’m not as similar to them as I am to the girls. 🙂

Give us the first sentence or paragraph then 2 (or 3!) more favorite snippets!

*blinks*

You know, someday I’m going to do Know the Novel and actually have a novel that I’m writing to feature instead of one that I’m plotting.

*sighs dreamily* What a day that will be.

Ahem. Lemme see if I can dig something up from our voluminous archives.

*returns like she just went through a war*

Nevermind. Anything that’s actually in somewhat story form is a whole load of spoilers and mostly in caps. I’m going to skip this question. XD

Share an interesting tidbit about the writing process so far! (For example: Have you made any hilarious typos? Derailed from your outline? Killed off a character? Changed projects entirely? Anything you want to share!)

*bounces* So, us AV writers have a Zoom call once a week to discuss this or our other WIPs or pretty much anything under the sun when we can’t focus. And lately we’ve been doing character interviews.

You guys. You seriously have to try getting on a Zoom call and interviewing someone’s character in person sometime. It is HILARIOUS, both to watch and to act as your character. And you learn so much!

So. That’s your homework. Find another writer, either IRL or online, and have a meeting or Zoom call where you interview one another’s characters face-to-face. Then tell me all about it!

Take us on a tour of what a normal writing day for this novel looks like. Where do you write? What time of day? Alone or with others? Is a lot of coffee (or some other drink) consumed? Do you light candles? Play music? Get distracted by social media (*cough, cough*)? Tell all!

Since this doesn’t really apply to AV but I do have a normal day, let me bore y’all with that. I typically write in the morning from 8:30-9:30, while I eat breakfast. I sit in the living room in front of the fire when it’s cold, or in my room when it’s not. Music is a must – either my WIP playlists or Hobbit/LOTR soundtracks or Maleficent soundtracks or animated movie soundtracks or sometimes just plain ambiance. I do not have social media (thank God), but I do tend to get distracted by collages or editing or blog posts… XD

Once again, I apologize for the lateness of this post. *sweeps a bow and offers milkshake* ‘Tis what happens when one goes on break and loses track of dates. XD What are your thoughts? What is your typical writing day like? How has your WIP surprised you? If you were any character in your WIP, who would you be? What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Until next time,

🍂🦃 HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! 🦃🍂

~Joelle 😉
