MBTI Stereotypes: the Basics (part 3)

Ahh, the Sentinels. Our calm, sweet (or not-so-sweet), quiet group that holds the world together. *blissful sigh*

I love Sentinels. (Okay, I love most if not all of the types, at least on paper. But these ones are great. XD)

I'm not going to waste your time with rambling, so if you're confused, start here; and if you're not, go right ahead and read!

ESFJ: the Consul

These are your people-pleasers (or your second mom). ESFJs come prepared for any situation, with extra jackets or blister gauze or a fried chicken in their backpack for anyone who might have a need. ESFJs are the social kings and queens of this world, flying through even the most awkward situation with flying colors. They're passionate about what they believe and have a servant's heart.

Every type has its flaws, however, and the ESFJ is no exception. Like I said, they're stereotypical people-pleasers. So when it comes to taking care of themselves or making others happy, they're more likely to make others happy. They can become so needed that they're run thin and have to start backing out of comittments (which hurts them like the dickens) or risk complete and total burnout.

ESFJ Examples: Peter Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia, Ugga from The Croods, and Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games (and also Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings XD)

ESFJ Memes:

ESTJ: the Executive

The F and T in ESFJ and ESTJ makes all the difference here. ESTJs are pretty much the opposite of people pleasers. Their stereotype is essentially the same as the ENTJ: a workaholic with no regard for others' preference. They're efficient, reliable, and very hard workers. ESTJs tend to be more down-to-earth than an ENTJ, but both of them like to be in charge and are good at getting things done while "in power". That means when you get two in the same place at the same time, there can be some... friction, especially if they have different visions. ;)

A stereotypical ESTJ's biggest flaw is their blatant disregard for others' emotions and preferences. Once you get into cognitive functions, you find that an ESTJ may simply be unaware of the way others feel about things instead of just choosing to ignore that. They also tend to be a bit of a tyrant when in charge and being overly competative.

ESTJ Examples: Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove, Grug from The Croods, Susan Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia

ESTJ Memes:

ISTJ: the Logistician

For whatever reason, the one-word summary of a stereotypical ISTJ is "boring". (I completely disagree - I find ISTJs to be one of the most complex and fascinating types out there. Maybe it's because I'm an ENFJ and ISTJ is about as different from me as you can get, but... *shrugs*) ISTJs are quiet, organized, and rule followers. They have big brains, but that's not obvious from their minimalistic and quiet demeanor.

ISTJs may struggle with social situations, especially large ones. They are seen as emotionless as their counterpart, the INTJ, though their stereotype is usually portrayed as concealing emotions instead of a robot like the INTJ. ISTJs also make strict parents (comes from that rule-following trait), but their children usually make it to adulthood. :P

ISTJ Examples: Karl from Up, Merlin from Finding Nemo, and the father from Swiss Family Robinson

ISTJ Memes:

(ISTJs are hereby the hardest to find good memes for. *fp* Though that last one is so accurate to how I feel about them 0_0)

ISFJ: the Defender

Nurses and caretakers (hence the avatar is a nurse). ISFJs are always putting others' needs before theirs and come prepared for every situation (much like an ESFJ). But instead of being as obvious about wanting to take care of someone, a stereotypical ISFJ is much more likely to just stay quiet until you need help, then present their services. They're steady, organized, thoughtful, and cautious. You'll rarely see an ISFJ rebelling against rules (*cough* Looking at you, ENTP and ESTP *cough cough*).

Interestingly enough, ISFJs don't seem to have many stereotypical weaknesses. Really the only one is that they tend to carry so many of other peoples' burdens without getting help for their own that they kinda fall apart (much like ESFJ and ENFJ). However, when an ISFJ falls apart, it's less obvious than an ESFJ or ENFJ.

ISFJ Examples: Bilbo from The Hobbit, Margaret March from Little Women, Luisa Madrigal from Encanto

ISFJ Memes:

Before I close out, I have a couple announcements.

It has come to my attention that many of you are subscribing to the Penmaiden but still not receiving emails for when I publish a new post. Please comment on whether or not you're having this issue! I need to know how many people are struggling so I know where to put it on my priorities list. XD If you are struggling with that, please let me know if you're subscribed to my newsletter. If you're not subscribed and you would like to be notified when the issue has been fixed, send me your email so I can let you know personally (or subscribe here XD)! You can send the email in your comment or, if you'd rather not have that public, use the contact form at the bottom of the home page instead. :) Thanks, guys! (Also, if you have any ideas as to why this is happening, I'd love to hear them. XD)

Secondly, I'm beginning to stockpile posts for June (if you're not subscribed to my newsletter and haven't heard, I'm planning on working at a camp for all of June and so won't be around to respond to comments and such ;)). So, if you would fill out this character Q&A and this quick feedback survey, I'd really appreciate it!! Thank you so much. :)

Until next time,

Take courage, pursue God, and smile while you still have teeth. <3

Lol, that meme with Peter Parker and his ESTJ boss... 🤣 Thank you for another fabulous post!!! SJ types are awesome, and quite underrated, in my opinion (hence that boring ISTJ stereotype 😭).

(I always get notified about new posts with this blog, but my sister has subscribed but doesn't get notified, apparently. :( I think it's some sort of glitch that happens with Wix sites sometimes, because the same thing happens to me with WV. *shakes head at technology* Praying you're able to get that fixed! <3)

(Sweet, thank you! Looks like she is on the list... *shakes fist at Wix again* I needs to do some research, methinks.)

I love these posts!!! I'm an ESFJ (in case I didn't mention that before...), and I definitely love to be friends with everyone! I also don't like saying no to parties or anything else my friends invite me to. 😂
