Whelp, no one was able to counter Annabelle’s awesome cliffhanger last week, which means I get to take up the reins! ;P Will we rejoin Norah at home, fighting to forget secrets we don’t even know about? Or will we visit Slade in his imprisonment, with friends (or enemies) around every turn? Or mayhaps we’ll continue with Dylan’s predicament – or did it really end that way?
Keep reading and you’ll find out. >:)

The Story
Jennifer! What is she doing here? Slade yanked against his restraints, testing them. Jax glanced backwards before the door slammed shut between them, his eyes cold. Hard. Heartless.
“See if I care,” Slade muttered as he was yanked back against the wall. “Filthy traitor.”
You should’ve known, a voice whispered in the back of his mind. Your parents tried to warn you.
Shut up. You’ve got more important things to think about – like how to escape, and what Jennifer is doing here. And what in the world Jax meant by “Codename: Silver. Anaconda”. He hung his, licking the blood off his split lip. Isn’t that a kind of snake?
The door banged open and voices flooded the awful silence of his cell.
Snapping his head up, Slade found himself face-to-face with the wide hazel eyes of the girl he had lied to his mother about, the girl who had stolen every inch of his heart. “Jennifer!” he cried and lunged again. The titanium cut into his skin as it held firm, jerking him back to the wall.
“Slade!” Her sweet voice was panicked, her whole body convulsing against the men who were dragging her in. Both had masks, but Slade recognized the large, stocky build of Crook 2. “What’s happening?”
Fire surged through his veins as they locked her in restraints similar to his. “Let her go, you idiots! She’s got nothing to do with this!”
Crook 2 turned and arched a aristocratic eyebrow in his direction. “Oh? Anyone associated with you has something to do with this. Y’see…” -he stalked over, drawing a gleaming blade from a sheath on his belt and placing the cold tip just beneath Slade’s Adam’s apple- “either you talk, or the girl gets it. Clear?”
Slade’s mind flashed back to the elucidation drug Jax had told him about. So they hadn’t gotten all the information they needed after all. Either that or they needed more than he knew. “Clear,” he growled.
“Good.” Crook 2 withdrew, snapping his knife back into the sheath and striding to the door, where the other crook waited. “You’ve got five minutes before we come back with the Unspoken One. Better think about what you’re going to spill.” His grating laugh echoed as the door slammed behind him.
“Slade, what’s happening?”
Slade turned his gaze to Jennifer, next to him, her chin quivering as tears filled her beautiful eyes. A strange expression was on her face. He shrugged it off, attributing it to a look of terror so extreme he could hardly recognize it. “They want secrets. About my dad. And my mom.”
“What secrets? Why? Where are we?”
He forced a laugh. “Too many questions. I don’t know where we are, and my only guess is because my dad has had… encounters… with them before.” Images flashed before his mind, vivid pictures of the tight anger in his dad’s face the night before. “And my mom is kinda important too.”
Her glare could’ve melted the restraints around his limbs had she been looking at them. “Slade Anthony Harlin, tell me everything. Everything.”
*cue evil laughter* Who’s next? What’s up with Jennifer? And Jax? Who is Crook 2? Will the Unspoken One finally be revealed? What happened to Dylan, and will we ever discover the secrets Norah has been hiding?
Find out next week. 🙂
Until then,
Take courage, pursue God, and smile while you still have teeth!! 😉
